St Bede's Free School
St Bede’s Inter-Church School was approved under Wave 12 of the Free Schools Programme in April 2017 to proceed with an application to open a new school in Cambridgeshire. Our new school will follow the very successful model of St Bede’s in Cambridge and eventually accommodate 600 students from the ages of 11-16. St Bede’s students benefit from a distinctively Christian education supported by the Catholic Diocese of East Anglia and the Church of England Diocese of Ely.
All state funded faith schools can choose to prioritise the admission of up to 50% of their students on the basis of faith. Parents seeking school places because of a school’s distinctive faith ethos are not required to live within the school’s designated catchment area.
Since 2017, different locations have been considered and the Department for Education are currently investigating a site adjacent to the proposed Eastern Gateway development in Soham.
As part of a feasibility study, we shall determine the level of parental demand for future secondary school places based upon faith preference. If you have children and would like them to attend a state funded faith secondary school, we need to hear from you.
