PSHEE

At St Bede’s, PSHEE provides an essential aspect of student development because:

• It promotes respect for self and others

• It creates an awareness of how to remain healthy and safe

• It fosters an understanding of relationships and sexual development within a Christian context

• It challenges various forms of prejudice and discrimination

• It develops skills related to business, enterprise, money management, the world of work and employability

The PSHEE framework covers two main areas throughout Key Stage 3 & 4:

1. Personal Well Being
2. Economic and Financial Capability

As well as timetabled lessons in Key Stage 3, PSHEE is delivered through a number collapsed days throughout the year. On these days, students are encouraged to reflect on specific issues. These sessions are led by members of staff as well as outside agencies and include topics such as:

• Managing change

• Building self esteem

• Respect and responsibility in relationships

• The dangers of drug and alcohol abuse

• Becoming assertive

• Diets and disorders

• Managing stress

• Preparing for the world of work

• The importance of ethical trade

• Developing business and enterprise skills
