Citizenship

Citizenship aims provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to play an effective role in society at local, national and international levels and to help them to become informed, thoughtful and responsible citizens who are aware of their duties and rights. It also aims to promote students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, making them more self confident and responsible, both in and beyond the classroom. Citizenship encourages students to play a helpful part in the life of the school, their neighbourhoods and communities and the wider world, and teaches students about our economy and democratic institutions and values.

Citizenship in Key Stage 3 is delivered through a number of themed Citizenship days that take place throughout the year as well as through timetabled lessons within RE and Personal Studies.

In Key Stage 4 all students study AQA’s GCSE (Short Course) in Citizenship Studies with almost all students sitting the qualification at the end of Year 10.
