Visits and Trips

The staff at St Bede’s organise a wide variety of activities aimed at widening students’ academic, social and spiritual experience. In recent years activities have included:

Subject-based Activities

  • History and Geography field trips to Norwich, Lavenham, Ely, Audley End, Wimpole Hall, West Stow, Framlingham, Norfolk Broads and Ypres
  • National mathematical challenges and the British Gas Maths Olympiad
  • Maths masterclasses at Cambridge University for very able students
  • Modern Language study visits to Germany and France
  • Visits to plays performed in French or German
  • “Physics at Work” at the Cavendish Laboratory and Science field trips
  • Theatre visits and workshops run by the English Department
  • Annual book fair and various competitions organised by the Resource Centre
  • Annual art exhibition
  • Trips to local art galleries
  • Textiles students visit the Clothes Show
  • Student poetry is regularly published
  • “Young Enterprise”
  • Linton Zoo staff and animals visit school
  • Whole School Humanities Days
  • Carnegie Shadowing Group
  • Trips to musicals and theatrical productions
  • Kings College Choir Trip
  • Annual Leavers Prom

The school also organises a range of enrichment activities in July. These include residential and local trips.  In recent years activities have included:

  • St Bede’s Trail to Durham
  • Tour to France and Belgium
  • Ingleborough Outdoor Activities
  • Computing Museum
  • The Junction Performing Arts business tour
  • ParkFit Sporting Activities
  • Grafham Water
  • First Aid and Self Defence Training


Parents are required to make a reasonable contribution to meals and accommodation on residential trips.   In respect of other activities, parents will be asked to make voluntary contributions to cover the costs of activities which cannot be met fully from school funds. Students elligible for Pupil Premium Funding can get help with the cost of extra-curricular activities and trips.  A copy of the full Charging and Remissions Policy can be obtained from school.
