All students are encouraged to take part in sporting activities, mainly through inter-tutor group competitions e.g. cross country, indoor 5-a-side football, team games and athletics. To encourage teamwork, all students are expected to take part in competitive sporting events. Good sportsmanship – coping with success and failure – is important to sports teaching at St Bede’s, as is socialising with other players.
St Bede’s offers a range of team and individual sports, with fixtures usually held on weekday afternoons. There are school teams in football, rugby, hockey, netball, basketball, cricket, tennis, badminton, rounders and athletics. Teams are chosen from those who work hard in lessons and attend after-school clubs. However, students who face transport difficulties will not lose team places due to missed practices. We practise equal opportunities in sport. In recent years we have had great success in rugby, football, basketball, netball, hockey and athletics.
