Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE)

About the Subject

Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE) gives students the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare for life and work in modern Britain. The subject helps students to achieve their academic potential and to leave school equipped with crucial life skills.

As well as timetabled lessons in Year 7 and 9, PSHCE is delivered through a number of themed whole-day sessions throughout the year. On these days, students are encouraged to reflect on specific themes. These sessions are led by members of staff as well as outside agencies and include topics such as:

  • Health and wellbeing

- maintaining physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing

- making informed choices about health and wellbeing matters, including drugs, alcohol and tobacco; maintaining a balanced diet; physical activity; emotional health and wellbeing; sexual health

  • Relationships

- recognising and managing emotions within a range of relationships
