Musical and Theatrical Productions

The school annually presents two productions: a lower school play and an upper school play. The productions provide an opportunity for every student to enrich their experience of Drama. Whether they are actors or stage crew, the tremendous commitment, creativity and camaraderie of the students involved is commendable. There are also opportunities for students to provide technical support as lighting and sound operators. There are students who assist with rehearsals, prop-making, costume-making and make-up design. Everyone is welcome to audition and/or sign up for a role behind the scenes.

  • Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations by Alan Ayckbourn
  • A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare
  • Alice in Wonderland Carroll Lewis
  • Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare
  • Hamlet by William Shakespeare
  • The Demon Headmaster by Gillian Cross adapted by Adrian Flynn
  • The Snow Queen by Andrew Leary
  • Macbeth by William Shakespeare

St Bede’s has a thriving music department with performances every term. Through our termly recitals, we offer students the opportunity to perform solos, duets and trios in an intimate environment.  These are designed to encourage students’ confidence and often include performances from students who are about to sit ABRSM or GCSE exams.

In addition, we host a large-scale concert at Christmas presenting our orchestra, choirs, jazz band and other large ensembles. There is also a Carol Service incorporating our Chaplaincy Representatives and musicians at a local church.   Student groups also regularly perform during end of term liturgies.

The school presents a musical on a biannual basis.  Past productions have included:

  • Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
  • Bugsy Malone
  • Grease

Expressive Arts Event

During the summer term, our art and music departments come together to present our Annual Showcase which exhibits the work completed by our GCSE Art/Graphics students and music from approximately 40 soloists. The evening culminates in a concert by the orchestra, choirs, string groups, woodwind groups and other large ensembles.
