Chaplaincy

As an Inter-Church school, St Bede's seeks to support and encourage students in the development of their Christian faith. We have a full-time chaplain whose role is to serve all members of the community; students, staff, governors, and parents and guardians. Together with the staff and Christian representatives from local churches, the chaplain maintains and develops the Christian ethos of the school.

There are many opportunities for students to explore their faith and to deepen their relationship with God. Our regular assemblies are led by staff, Christians from the wider community and by the students themselves. There are regular Anglican Eucharists and Roman Catholic Masses, as well as celebrations of the major Christian feasts in which the different denominations can share. A Christian Union and student prayer group meet during lunch-time. We aim to provide every year group with a reflection day and the older years with opportunities for residential retreats.

St Bede's is fortunate in having a designated Chaplaincy area with a prayer room and meeting room. The students are encouraged to see this as a friendly, welcoming place as well as a place of prayer. The chaplain, as part of the wider Pastoral Team of the school, is available to any member of the school community who needs someone to talk to, or who wishes to discuss a particular issue.
